April 7, 2016 St. Mary’s Parish Docks to Houma

Around 7:30 we were the first boat to pull out into the ICW to wait for the others before moving on our way to Houma.  The current was strong in the river and it felt like we were in slow motion.  We were only doing 4.3 – 4.4 knots until we g…

April 6, 2016 Delcambre to Morgan City / Berwick

We got up at 6 am with no fog.  Kay took the rent car back at 7:15 am and at the same time we headed to out to get fuel. Kay returned just as we were finished fueling up so it worked out well.  Cambria proceeded to the fuel dock and S/V …

April 5, 2014 Morgan City and Berwick by Car

The plan was to get up at 6 am, get fuel and head to Morgan City.  When our alarm went off at 6, Josh said we may be going back to bed.  I said what?  He told me that after I went to bed last night, Curtis sent a text telling us that it …

April 4, 2016 Play Day in Delcambre

The plan for today was to take our dinghies to Avery Island.  Not knowing how much fuel we would use or if we could get fuel once we got there, we decided to take only two dinghies, using the fuel tank from the third dinghy as “get home” fuel.&nbs…

April 3, 2016 Mermentau River to Delcambre

Another great day on the water!  Chilly in the morning but warmed up into the high 70’s by the time we arrived in Delcambre.  Today we saw a gator, a snake, lots of birds and a coyote.  I can’t believe I got a picture of the coyote!&nbsp…

April 2, 2016 Lake Charles to the Mermentau River

Finally we have some good weather so we can move on!  It was cold and chilly in the morning but it turned out to be a beautiful day like they said it would be.  We saw an alligator swimming across the ICW and two snakes swimming toward us.&nb…

March 27th – April 1st, 2016 Lake Charles

Still hanging out in Lake Charles waiting for a weather window to go to our next location, anchoring at the Mermentau River.

Sunday, March 27th. The people on the boats at the end of our dock had a car at the marina and told us we could use it so we headed to the grocery store for some items.  A lot of the local boaters know us from TMCA/Spring Fling and now part of the TMCA club.  They are all very outgoing, nice and friendly, willing to help out in any way.

Diane was making a pot roast for dinner and invited Josh and I over to their boat for dinner.  We brought the salad and appetizer and had a great time sitting around discussing our trip and when we anticipate what time Al and Kay would arrive back from Houston.  We new it would be sometime early that evening.  The group would be all together to carry on this adventure!

Monday, March 28th. Al and Kay still had their rent car until Tuesday afternoon so we decided to drive over to the L’ Auberge du Lac seafood buffet for dinner and then a visit to the beautiful new Golden Nugget.

Tuesday, March 29th. Curtis and Diane could not keep their dinghy engine running so they took it over to BowTie to be worked on.  Come to find out is was just bad gas.  Because we were still stuffed from eating at the buffet the night before we stayed on the boat for dinner of left overs.

Wednesday, March 30th. What a day!  The weather Channel was predicting high winds and YUP! that’s what we got.  We rocked n’ rolled all day.  Take a look at the screenshots below:

We did get out to go to lunch in town at Tia Juanita’s.  I had fish tacos and Josh had beef tacos.

Thursday, March 31st. The guy who owns the boat in the first slip (Raymond) lent Curtis one of his trucks and said we could use it until Sunday when he heads back to work.  We decided to check out a new place to have lunch and ended up at Pat’s of Henderson.  We had a great lunch, excellent food!

Friday, April 1st. Diane texted us and asked if we would like to go do some laundry since we still had the truck.  Guess what?  We loaded up our dirty clothes and headed to the Laundromat.  Check out the picture below!  This is what our young son needs!  Yes, it’s a washer that does 8 loads at a time.

They have dryers also!

After we got back, we walked into town and had a great lunch at Blue Dog.  Excellent food!  After lunch we started getting the boats ready for our departure tomorrow to the Mermentau River anchorage.  We filled the water tanks and put away all things that fly, roll, or move around.

Curtis told us that on Friday nights they have concerts and food vendors up at the park area.  Yup – he was right!  Several of the Lake Charles boaters come into the city marina in the evening just to attend the festivities and spend the night.  We all walked up to the park to check out the food and music/entertainment.  Josh had some of the gumbo and I had some Shrimp n’ Grits and it was fantastic.  The others went to the famous taco truck to try the tacos.  They said they were really good also!  Because we raved about the gumbo, Kay had to go back to try that too!  This was a nice end to our Lake Charles stay!

Red Sky at Night, Sailors Delight!  Tomorrow is going to be a great day!!!!!

March 25th and 26th, 2016 Clear Lake to Lake Charles

March, 25th. We finally headed out after 24 days of being delayed from our original date of March 1st by weather and other things that popped up.  When traveling by motor boat, rain and wind is not your friend!  At 6:50 am we pulled out of our slip at Portofino and headed for our first stop at Taylor Outfall to anchor for the night.
 Bye bye Clear Lake…

 …Hello Galveston Bay

Low winds and wave action do not always coincide and like always we rocked and rolled all the way to Galveston.  Teak and I were not happy!  This is the only part of boating that I dislike.  Once we entered the ICW we had to maneuver through TOW CITY BOLIVAR.

We were so used to rocking and rolling, so what’s a little more with all the prop-wash coming at us from both sides?   Some tows pulled their throttles back for us but most were just idling so you just had to swerve your way through the churned up water.  By 10:30 we were out of the mess and had smooth running until later in the afternoon when we caught up to six tows in a row.  Some of the tows were double wide and some single and they were playing hopscotch with each other.  The ICW is only so wide and sometimes when another tow was coming from the other direction it appeared like the tows just stopped or possibly ran aground.  We were in the middle of a TOW JAM!  Not a warm and fuzzy feeling when a tow in front of you stops, a tow is passing going the other direction and the tow you just passed behind you is coming up on you fast.  Those big boys would make pick up sticks out of us!!!!!!

We entered Taylor Outfall around 5:00 pm, dropped the hook and settled in for a peaceful evening.

March 26. We pulled up our anchor, washing the mud off little by little as we pulled the chain up.  We started heading on our way at 7:30 am.

Bye bye Taylor Outfall!

Debris from Sabine River

Saw our first “man cave” at the Texas / Louisiana border

First pleasure boat encounter!

Ellender Bridge

This tow boat looked funny as it was coming towards us.  Kinda looked like a caterpillar!

Second pleasure boat encounter, They are Lake Arthur boaters!

Lake Charles here we come!

We had a great day on the water all the way to Lake Charles where Curtis and Diane were waiting to catch our lines.  We were not sure what slip we would pull into so they were nice enough to put out a bumper on Al and Kay’s boat just in case, see picture below! LOL

While we were settling in, Curtis and Diane headed over to Bow Tie for fuel because Bow Tie was going to be closed on Sunday and Monday.  After they got back, we headed into town for dinner.  Restaurants come and go in Lake Charles so we ended up trying a new restaurant named Blue Dog and the food was really rich and good!

New Year / New Adventure

As you can tell, we are not day cruisers, we are destination cruisers!  Yup, it’s that time again and the countdown has begun.  We are in the process of getting ready to head out to Florida for another adventure. These are some of the th…

5-26 & 27-2015 Heading Home from Spring Fling

Tuesday morning everyone got up around 5:00 AM to get ready to head out for home.  We were all so ready to get out of here!  The radar was showing a band of storms coming our way, so with great disappointment we went back to bed.  Anothe…
