We spent the past week showing Stan’s brother Steve and his wife Liz around some of our favorite stomping grounds in Barra de Navidad and Tenacatita. They flew in from San Diego for some respite from the cold, cold weather up there!
Our first order of business was provisioning, in preparation for anchoring out for a few days in Tenacatita Bay. We took the bus to the nearby town of Melaque to pick up some produce. Back aboard, we soaked all the fruits and vegetables in dilute bleach for several minutes as always, to kill not only nasty bacteria and parasites, but also annoying fruit flies. Between transportation and the soaking, rinsing and drying of produce, grocery shopping is always a time-consuming ritual aboard a boat.
Tenacatita was fun and relaxing as ever, despite the fact that the land owner of the beach property at the end of the jungle cruise closed down all the palapa restaurants we used to visit. Nick, the resident dolphin, woke us all up in the morning, rubbing our anchor chain and hamming it up around our bow. And the beach is still long, flat and all but deserted. Perfect!
One day we hired a panga to take us to a beautiful, fancy resort across the bay, Tamarindo, where we had lunch, walked the lovely grounds and lazed on the beach.
We returned to Barra for their last couple of nights.
It’s possible we partied just a LITTLE too hard.
Below, you can see the classic bleary eyes and goofy smile that come from a bit too much tequila…
But here’s what happens when you drink WAY too much tequila, then chase it with a few Pacifico’s…
As Steve and Liz make their way back to southern California, we are readying the boat for our next adventure. Tomorrow we hop to the anchorage of Las Hadas. After a couple of nights there, we’ll leave for the 35 hour passage to Zihuatanejo, in the company of our friends aboard the sailboats Lisa Kay and Santosha.
We’re so glad we were able to share those days relaxing with Steve and Liz!
