Our stay in Morehead City was completed with a very nice dinner out at Picatta’s Fine Dining. This was a new-to-us restaurant that was not at all fancy decor-wise but was absolutely great (and inexpensive) food-wise. We’ll certainly visit again. From Morehead City, we moved west and south through coastal North Carolina making stops in [Read More…]

Solomons, MD to Morehead City, NC: 10/24/11 – 11/07/11
We are at Morehead City Yacht Basin in Morehead City, NC enjoying a rare gale-free day. Our stay in Solomons ended up being much longer than anticipated. One front after another came through with strong winds, driving rain and big waves on Chesapeake Bay. Even though the winds were from the north, crossing the mouth [Read More…]
Haverstraw Bay, NY to Solomons, MD: 9/1/11 – 10/23/11
Now where were we? That’s right, I was leaving the boat to head off to Annapolis by car to have a small hernia repaired and then be back on my feet in no time. Well, it wasn’t so small and “no time” translated into six weeks of light duty. First things first. We turned the [Read More…]
Waterford, NY to Haverstraw Bay, NY: 08/20/11 – 08/31/11
What a long, strange trip it’s been. Oh wait, I think some obscure band already used that line. Anyway, we’re in Half Moon Bay Marina on Haverstraw Bay for the second time on our cruise back to the Chesapeake. We left Waterford after the rains eased and worked our way south through the last lock [Read More…]
Westport, NY to Waterford, NY: 08/16/11 – 08/19/11
After many miles and over 50 locks, we’ve closed the “Little Triangle” and are back in Waterford, NY. What a great cruise it has been. While we sat in Westport watching the rain fall and fall and fall, we decided it would be prudent to get through the Champlain Canal pretty quickly. With the local [Read More…]
Chambly, Quebec to Westport, NY: 08/09/11 – 08/15/11
We’re in Westport, NY after a great cruise through Canadian waters. It’s hard to believe that it’s mid-August already (early fall on Lake Champlain!). Our second day in Chambly involved walking all over town looking for a hardware store. Sadly, we seemed to be walking in the wrong direction. French had nothing to do with [Read More…]
Montréal, Quebec to Chambly, Quebec: 07/31/11 – 08/08/11
After seven great days in Montreal, we have moved north and then south to Chambly, Quebec. Hopefully we’ll soon be in the spider-free zone. Our visit with Don and Lynn, formerly of “Landd Ho” was terrific. We ate some great food, drank way too much wine, did some tourist stuff, and enjoyed reminiscing about our [Read More…]
Crysler Park, Ontario to Montréal, Quebec: 07/25/11 – 07/30/11
We are at the Port d’escale des Quais du Vieux-Port de Montréal. In other words, the marina on the quays of the old port of Montréal. Even though Ms. Green didn’t really see my true potential in French class in high school, there is a dusty corner of the brain where some of that learning [Read More…]
Sackets Harbor, NY to Crysler Park, Ontario: 07/13/11 – 07/24/11
Frozen blueberries, frozen pasta sauce, and frozen tonic water. That’s what we woke up to this morning. A sure sign the refrigerator is about to blow up again. We’re in Crysler Park, Ontario having proceeded down, up, and down again on the St. Lawrence. (“Down” is toward Gaspé and the ocean; “up” is toward Lake [Read More…]
Amsterdam, NY to Sacket’s Harbor, NY: 07/02/11 – 07/12/11
We’re in Sacket’s Harbor, NY tied up to two docks. Details below. Our stop in Amsterdam was very nice. Susan drove out from Boston for the July 4th weekend and managed to find Riverlink Park in the dead of night. After hugs and kisses and brief conversation, we all headed off to bed. While the [Read More…]
