Costa Rica

Bahai Drake was our next stop.  It was close to a national park but we couldn’t get ashore as it was low tide during the usable part of the day and there was no water at the dinghy docks!  We waited 3 days but would have had to wait 4-5 more …

Panama to Costa Rica

With repairs completed, spares and provisions stowed, we finally departed the La Playita anchorage outside of Panama City February 2nd to head north.  We first made another tour of the Las Perlas Islands because they were on the way. We anchored at Isla Contadora again because of internet availability, thoroughly cleaned the outside of Voyager from soot and ash accumulated in Panama City, and snorkeled Isla Chapera for the first time.  The water was clear, fish plentifull, but colder than we wer…

Kuna Yala, Panama

We finally left Bocas Del Toro the end of August and after an overnight run arrived in Porvenir, our checkin port for the San Blas Islands (the Spanish name, but it is governed by the Kuna Indians hence the name Kuna Yala).  Immediately as we were in the midst of anchoring we were surrounded by 7 ulus (wood dugout canoes) of local Kuna Indians.  The women were in the colorful Kuna dress, the young girls dressed like those in the US, the men in pants or trunks.  Here the women make molas and bead…
